How it all started...

Founded in 1997, the purpose of Evergreens Fundraiser was to help the much-needed women's domestic violence shelter in Davis County open with furnished bedrooms.

The combined effort of Women in Business, Medical Auxiliary, DCCAV and other volunteers created an auction of decorated Christmas trees. They had about 10 trees and the same number of wreaths and other decor, which were displayed in Five Points Mall in Bountiful, Utah. That first auction brought in over $6000, which helped open the shelter. The money supplied food and paid for utilities for the 35 women and children that immediately filled the shelter to capacity.

The need for the shelter was equaled by the desire of the community to help, and so each year Evergreens grew larger and found new locations to meet the expansion required by more donated trees, added craft booths and wonderful food.

The years 1998-2001 saw the event held at Davis County Fair Park, the county fairgrounds. These years, along with craft booths, a dinner was served. And the contributions raised grew from $10,000 to more than $20,000.

In 2002 and 2003 Evergreens was hosted by St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Bountiful, Utah. Craft booths, candy, and hot cinnamon rolls added to the tree auction helped raise more than $35,000.

At this time, the shelter was given a new name: Safe Harbor Crisis Center

Since 2004, Evergreens has been held at Davis Conference Center in Layton. With the total number of decorated trees exceeding the space available, craft booths were eliminated, but a dinner is still served.

The Evergreens Committee is comprised of volunteer men and women who feel strongly that every individual, every mother and child, has the right to be safe, to live free of violence. Together we can provide a safe place for families.

All donations are tax deductible. DCCAV, the governing board of Safe Harbor Shelter and Crisis Center is a non–profit 501©3 organization.
